Nassau Certified Public Accountants

Michael I. Thaler, CPA, PFS

"Getting something done is an accomplishment; getting something done right is an achievement."

As a veteran accountant and business advisor, Michael believes that providing proactive client service is not only crucial for the success of the engagement with the client, but also for the continued success of the firm. With regard to client relations, he prides himself on his accessibility, and clients rely on him for his honest, straightforward answers to their issues.

Michael provides successful solutions tailored specifically to his clients, which include high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth individuals, and industries such as law firms, real estate, entertainment, hedge fund management firms, and medical practices, among others.

Michael's experience extends beyond the business realm into the world of education. Starting in the fall of 2004, he became an adjunct assistant professor at Queens College, CUNY, teaching individual income taxation and more recently a lecturer at Molloy College.

With regard to his staff, Michael has a team oriented approach. He believes in delegation with supervision, not micro management. The trust he gives to his staff builds a motivated and energetic engagement team that goes beyond merely what is expected. But his clients also know that when he delegates a task, he's not taking himself out of the issue.

With more than 25 years of experience in public accounting, Michael I. Thaler has particular expertise in providing personal business management services to high net-worth individuals and businesses and professional service firms that range from $1-$100 million in revenue. A Personal Financial Specialist (PFS) who works closely with these individuals and businesses, Michael is dedicated to helping clients retain and increase wealth. To accomplish this goal, he advises clients on areas as varied as personal and business financial planning, investment analysis, cash flow analysis, and estate and gift tax planning.

Michael also advises closely held companies on tax and operational issues that are most relevant to their business. In addition, he specializes in designing and reviewing employee benefit plans.

For high net-worth individuals and closely held businesses, Michael's expertise extends to:

  • advising on investment planning for retirement, education, and liquidity purposes

  • creating trust, family partnerships, and private foundations for tax and family planning

  • personal budgeting

  • managing the details of multiple residences

  • assessing insurance coverage and analyzing the cost/benefit value of health, life, or other insurance plans

  • bill paying and banking account management

  • consulting on human resources matters, including helping to develop personnel manuals, coordinate employee benefits, prepare compliance reports, and refine employee recruiting and hiring practices
