Sanders Thaler Viola & Katz, LLP Welcomes New Additions to the Firm
Sanders Thaler Viola & Katz, LLP has hired Elliott Lavietes as its new tax director, Barry Palczewski as its new senior associate of the firm’s Trusts and Estates Group and Elizabeth Oberg as its senior accountant.
Mr. Lavietes has more than 25 years of tax experience, specializing in tax research and planning for an array of industries, including entertainment, real estate, and personal services. He also provides professional business services to high net worth individuals and offers clients multi-state planning strategies, including complete Nexus studies for income and sales tax. He previously worked as a tax partner at Citrin Cooperman, LLP in Manhattan.
As a member of the New York State Society of CPAs‘ Multistate and Local Taxation Committee, Mr. Lavietes has authored numerous articles on a number of tax-related issues and has spoken on various topics before groups of professionals. He is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Mr. Palczewski has more than 20 years experience in judicial accountings for probate and administration of decedents, estates, family, wealth, philanthropic, gift and estate tax planning. As a senior fiduciary accountant, he has provided services to individuals in the areas of estate planning, trust and estate administration and taxation of individuals, trusts and estates.
He began his career as a public accountant with Oppenheim, Appel and Dixon & Co. (currently Grant Thornton LLP) and was later promoted to assistant vice president. He later worked at Kelley, Drye and Warren LLP in New York City and then at Blair and Potts in Stanford, Connecticut before joining Sanders Thaler Viola & Katz, LLP.
Before joining Sanders Thaler Viola & Katz, LLP, Ms. Oberg worked at accounting firms in which her primary focus was on rental real estate and Common Interest Realty Associations, which includes cooperatives, condominiums, and homeowners’ associations. In addition to real estate, she also served clients in the not-for-profit industry, retail services, bankruptcy, and medical device companies, as well as clients in the developmental stages. She performed audits, including 401(k) audits, reviews and compilations and was responsible for financial statements and assisting clients with chief financial officer functions.
In 2010, Ms. Oberg completed her Certified Public Accountant certification and is currently studying for her Certified Fraud Examination. She is a member of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.
